The Atomic Age — the era of nuclear technology that began with the startup of the world's first nuclear reactor in 1942 and carried forward through the ongoing progress of the nuclear industry, a defining chapter of our modern technological era. The Atomic Age collection brings together three lines dedicated to the three greatest nuclear physicists of the 20th century: Robert Oppenheimer, Enrico Fermi and Andrei Sakharov. Andrei Sakharov was a Soviet nuclear physicist, dissident, Nobel laureate and campaigner for disarmament, peace and human rights. As chief designer of the Soviet thermonuclear weapons, Sakharov later became a defender of civil liberties and civil reform in the Soviet Union, for which he faced state persecution; those efforts earned him the Nobel Peace Prize in 1975. The design unites a distinctive techno-futuristic, multi-faceted case of anatomical form with tritium illumination and the finest automatic and quartz movements. The case is built from two metal halves, welded together and fixed with two rivets. Specially engineered, vivid silicone straps with ventilation openings deliver exceptional comfort for everyday wear. The hands are skeletonized and the dials carry a granular texture.
